Man. Acilius Balbus, 125 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.61 g, 9 h), Rome. BALBVS ROMA Head of Roma to right, wearing winged helmet and pearl necklace; below chin, star (mark of value); all within laurel wreath. Rev. Jupiter in quadriga, hurling thunderbolt with his right hand and holding scepter and reins in his left; below horses, Macedonian shield. Babelon (Acilia 1) 19. Crawford 271/1. RBW 1089. Sydenham 498. Nicely toned. Slightly rough and with some nicks, otherwise, very fine.
